ASTM E 2149ASTM E 2149-Standard Test Method for Determining the Antimicrobial Activity of Immobilized Antimicrobial Agents Under Dynamic Contact Conditions.
This test method is designed to evaluate the resistance of non-leaching antimicrobial treated specimens to the growth of microbes under dynamic contact conditions.
The dynamic shake flasks in which all the samples are shaken in a wrist action shaker to ensures good contact between the bacteria and the treated fiber, fabric, or other substrate by constant agitation of the test specimen in a bacterial suspension during the test period.
Microbial concentrations in the treated and untreated samples are determined at zero as well as 1 or 24 hrs contact time or time specified by the sponsor.
Organisms: Klebsiella pneumoniae, ATCC No. 4352.
Other organisms like Staphylococcus aureus , E.coli may be tested upon request.
Sample Requirements: Between 0.5 and 2.0 grams
Contact time: 1 hr. unless a different contact time is specified
Turn around time: 5 to 8 days
